Florida with Graham

Three things stand out in my mind when I think of the trip I made to Florida when I was 18; crashing my friend’s dad car, meeting American girls and eating peanuts in the Bahamas.
My best friends’ parents had moved to Florida. His dad lent us his car to visit Key West and we crashed it on the first day! It wasn’t our fault. Someone drove into the back of us. That didn’t stop his dad from hitting the roof, though!
Our British accents helped us meet a couple of cute American girls at a disco one night. We had a lot of fun hanging out with them for a few days and we wrote letters for a while when we got back to the UK. Eventually, we dropped out of touch. I suppose the distance was too great.
Towards the end of the 3-week trip we were running out of money, despite the fact that we’d been sleeping and eating at his parents place for most of the time. Nevertheless, how could we pass on the opportunity to go on a 3-day boat trip to the Bahamas?
We had enough money for the boat ticket, but there was hardly any left after that. We had enough money for one Kentucky Fried Chicken meal when we got to the Island, and we survived on eating peanuts, crisps and olives that were left on the bars of hotel swimming pools. It was easy to sneak into the pool area and sit at the bar eating the snacks. Sometimes, we even got a free beer!
