iTalki
ITalki is an online marketplace for teachers and
students for paid language lessons. It also has extra features such as
free language exchange partners. This feature is only available on the
mobile phone app.
iTalki isn’t an online language school that offers its own language
classes, it's a marketplace where students and teachers can connect. In
this way, it’s similar to sites like UpWork, Fivrr and airbnb
When you visit the iTalki website, you’ll find a large selection of
teachers and a wide variety of prices. In fact, prices can start as low
as $5 and reach up to $60 per hour. There are more than 100 different
languages available and you’ll find several teachers for even the lesser-known
languages. If you’re studying English, you’ll find about 8000 English
teachers who are registered with iTalki.
Before you book a teacher to study with, you can watch introductory
videos so that you get a feel how the teacher will teach you and many
teachers also offer trial lessons free of charge.
You also have the convenience of being able to schedule lessons
according to the days and times you want to study.
You can change teachers if you don’t think he or she is a good fit or if
your availability, or that of you teacher, changes.
You can also choose your teacher based on their specialty (exams,
pronunciation, business English etc.) or by accent (American, Australian,
English, Irish etc.).
Students also write reviews of their classes, similar to Amazon, but
these are usually positive. Students probably don’t feel comfortable
writing negative public reviews about their teacher!
