How to clean your microwave
I put some pasta with tomato sauce in my
microwave yesterday and forgot to set the timer. After 6 minutes it had
exploded like an alien monster hit by a nuclear bomb.
So, how did I clean it?
I tried a quick wipe with a paper towel, but that didn’t do the trick. A
much deeper clean was needed.
I took out the glass tray and the ring with wheels on it and washed them
in the sink with soap and water.
Then I took out my secret weapon to tackle the inside of the machine.
We have a wooden floor and we use a diluted solution of vinegar and
water in a spray bottle to clean it. This works great on the inside of
microwaves, too.
Using a sponge, I wiped down the inside and the vinegar cut through the
tomato sauce like a dream.
If your appliance has old grease and fat stuck to the sides and door (shout
out here to all you university students out there!) I suggest putting 2
or 3 tablespoons of vinegar into a microwave-safe bowl of water and zap
it on high for at least 5 minutes.
Don’t open the door straight away. Just leave it closed for at least 10
minutes. The vinegar and steam are cleaning the inside of your microwave
and it will cut through the grease and dirt inside.
You can also use a lemon for this. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze the
juice in to the bowl of water. Drop the two lemon halves in the bowl and
zap it on high for 10 to 15 minutes and you’ll get a similar result.
