Better English Pronunciation
I recently found an interesting pronunciation resource that you might
find useful for improving your pronunciation in English. It's called
youglish.com. Yes, it’s a strange name, but perhaps not so strange when
you realize that it’s a combination of YouTube and English. YouGlish!
It's very easy to use. You simply type a word or phrase into the box,
click the accent you want to hear, you can choose from UK (British
English), US (American English), the Australian accent or have a
selection of all three, and the algorithm will play you short examples
from YouTube videos. Very cool!
I don’t have to tell you that there is a huge amount of video content on
YouTube. In fact, over 500 hours of video content is uploaded to YouTube
every minute! It’s the second largest search engine on the internet
after Google.
Of course, while you’re watching the videos and listening to the
pronunciation, you can also slow the speed of the audio and turn on CC
subtitles.
YouGlish is free and, although it’s supported by advertising, they don’t
interfere very much with playing the video.
YouGlish works with 12 other languages, too, although I suppose you’ll
be interested in the English service. If you want to try out YouGlish
for yourself, just go to YouGlish.com.
If you’re a Spanish speaker, and you want to improve your pronunciation,
we have a course on the mansioningles website that will help you
pronounce English better. To see more details, go to
store.mansioningles.net.
