Coca Cola and Santa
Haddon Sundblom made the character of Santa popular in 1931.
As an illustrator from Chicago, USA, Sundblom designed a
Coca-Cola advertisement which contained an image of Santa
with a red suit and a white beard. Since then Santa has been
a major part of Christmas in the UK and the USA. However,
while children today can recognise Victorian Santa pictures
easily, they be surprised to see older pictures showing
Saint Nicholas (Santa) in green clothes.

MATERIALS:
- Old breakfast cereal box
- Puzzle pieces from a jigsaw puzzle
- Red, green and brown paint
- Photo
- Piece of red felt (and green felt for a holly leaf - optional)
- 2 eyes that move (or you can make paint or paper ones)
INSTRUCTIONS:
· Place the photo onto the cereal box to check the size and shape you
want (you can make it circular, square, oval, triangular, etc)
· Cut out a shape from the cereal box at least 2.5cm bigger than the
photo (this is going to be your frame).
· Cut a shape out of the centre of your "frame" (without cutting through
- this is a job for an adult). Remember, you should have at least a
2.5cm frame.
· Paint your puzzle pieces (some red and some green) and let them dry
· Glue them onto your frame, overlapping the pieces.
· Glue the photo to the back of the frame.
MAKE YOUR REINDEER:
· Take 3 puzzle pieces (preferably one should be a bit bigger than the
other two).
· Paint the 3 puzzle pieces brown and let them dry.
· Next, take the two smaller puzzle pieces and glue them to the larger
one in the corners only.
· Then attached the moving eyes.
· Cut-out a small red circle for the nose and glue.
· Then in the corner of one of the reindeer’s head make a small leaf
from green felt.
· Glue the reindeer into the corner of the frame.
