Society to protect the
apostrophe closes down
The battle to save the apostrophe may be lost now that
the Apostrophe Protection Society has decided to close.
The head of the society says that ignorance and laziness
have won. The society was set up in 2001 by a retired
journalist.
The journalist, now aged 96, says that "Fewer
organisations and individuals are now caring about the
three correct uses of the apostrophe in the English
language".
‘We have done our best but the ignorance and laziness
present in modern times have won!’.
The society’s website will stay open for reference and
interest.
