How to Hang a Picture
First, make sure your frame is in the centre of
the wall.
Start by measuring the width of the wall where you’re going to hang your
picture and then divide this measurement in half. Mark this halfway
point with a pencil.
Next, you need to decide how high you want to hang your picture.
A good guide is to position it so that it’s more or less at eye level.
It's a good idea to make sure the bottom of the frame is at least a
metre and a half from the floor.
Using your pencil, mark where the top of the frame rests against the
wall. Make sure it's near the centre mark you made earlier.
Now you need to measure for the nail that you'll hang your picture on.
On the back of your picture, measure the distance from the top of the
frame to the hanging wire or hook.
Then, starting from the mark you made to show where your frame’s top
will go, measure down to find the place where your nail will go. Use
your pencil to mark this spot with an X. Make sure you have marked your
X on the wall’s center mark.
Take a hammer and hammer a nail into the wall in the centre of the X.
Make sure the nail is at an angle so that it’s pointing up. If you don’t,
your picture may fall off!
Finally, put your frame on the nail, adjusting to make sure it’s hanging
straight. You should use a spirit level to make sure that your picture
is hanging straight.
