Coronavirus safety
Let me say first of all, I’m not a doctor. But
in these uncertain times I thought I’d repeat some advice that you may
have heard or read already in Spanish, that way you can practice your
listening comprehension and stay safe at the same time!
Remember to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20
seconds. I like to quickly sing ‘Happy Birthday’ twice. That’s about 20
seconds.
You should wash your hands especially after being in a public place, or
after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. You can also use a hand
sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol – if you can find any! But soap and
water does the job just fine.
Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands. This is one of
the most common ways that the virus is caught.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Try to keep a distance of
at least one metre from other people when your shopping and out and
about in your community.
Stay home if you’ re sick, except to get medical care. You’re more
likely to spread the disease to others if you go outside.
Use a tissue to over your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and throw used
tissues away as soon as you use them. If you don’t have a tissue, cough
or sneeze into your elbow or sleeve, not your hands.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes
tables, door handles, light switches, desks, computers, phones,
keyboards, sinks, toilets and worksurfaces. Basically, anything that you
touch.
Remember to wear a facemask if you’re sick. You should wear one when you
are in the company of other people.
