Are you still smoking?
Are you still smoking? Really? Don’t you realise
how bad it is for you?
I used to hate it when people said that to me when I was a smoker. The
thing is, smokers only stop smoking when they are ready to, and not
before.
I was 28 when I stopped smoking. Then I started again when I was 35 and
stopped again at 38.
In fact, nearly 9 out of 10 smokers start before the age of 18 and
almost all start smoking by age 26. When I see young people smoking, I
get it.
I mean, many kids just want to look cool and be accepted by their
friends. Despite the fact that fewer teenagers are smoking these days,
there’s still a fair amount of peer pressure encouraging them to do so.
It’s when people get older that they have fewer reasons to keep smoking.
On average, the life expectancy of a smoker is 10 years less than a
nonsmoker. Cigarette smoke contains more than 7,000 chemicals, 70 of
which are known to cause cancer. So, are you ready to give up?
