The Grammy Music Awards
The Grammy Awards used to the called the Gramophone Awards. A Grammy is
an award presented by The Recording Academy to recognize outstanding
achievements in the music industry.
The ceremony is held every year and features performances by prominent
artists, and the presentation of those awards that have a more popular
interest to the public.
The Grammy is similar to other awards and ceremonies such as the Academy
Awards that celebrate achievements in the film industry, the Emmy Awards
for television and the Tony Awards in the genre of theatre .
The first Grammy Awards ceremony was held on May 4, 1959, to honor and
respect the musical accomplishments by performers for the previous year,
1958.
Many of the award categories were changed after the 2011 ceremony and
the 2012 even had a new look.
Alison Krauss is the biggest winner among female artists. She has won 27
awards. The musical group that holds the record for most awards is U2
with 22 Grammys.
The 61st Annual Grammy Awards, honoring the best achievements from
October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018, will be held on February 10, 2019
in Los Angeles.
