Why use Instagram?
Yesterday, on the bus, I saw a young woman
enthusiastically scrolling through her Instagram feed and liking photos.
I must admit that I didn’t really understand why. I have an Instagram
account, but I don't post very often. I don't really get it.
I mean, I know it's a photo sharing application, but what is all the
fuss about, and how are people using it?
The app was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, and launched in
October 2010.
You can use Instagram to upload photos and videos and edit them with
various filters. Your content can be organized with tags and location
information. You can browse other users' photos by using tags and
locations, and view trending content. You can also "like" photos, and
follow other users to add their content to you feed and see them
automatically when they’re posted.
So, how are people using it? Well, it seems that a lot of people are
using Instagram to keep in touch with friends and family. Posting
regular pics helps keep loved ones informed and up-to-date on what's
going on with you and what’s happening in your life.
Another use is following famous people and celebrities. Maybe you want
to see what your favourite singer or footballer is doing, or perhaps you
want to follow your favourite fashion brand or artist. Instagram gives
you the opportunity to feel close to people and companies that are, in
reality, very far away from you, both physically and socially.
The Instagram app can also be a very powerful tool for business owners.
It can be used to build or strengthen a brand and to find more customers.
Instagram now has over 1 billion users, so a strong presence on the
platform can give companies an edge in the marketplace.
Whatever you use Instagram for it's without doubt one of the most
popular app in today's busy world of social media.
